Description
The W&I Preceptor Course equips nurses in Women and Infant Services (W&I) with the tools and knowledge that they need to successfully onboard newly hired nurses in Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby, and the Special Care Nursery. Nurses will learn about the roles and responsibilities of the preceptor. Effective teaching techniques, different learning styles, and constructive communication will be explored to facilitate the onboarding process while maintaining patient safety. In addition to an overview of the orientation process and expectations for orientation for both coaches and orientees, unique considerations to the coaching and orientation experience in W&I will also be reviewed, including unit-specific orientation materials, the Bridge program, the Nurse Residency Program, and the TSAM model of orientation.
