Description
The course is intended to provide a robust infection prevention curriculum incorporating current evidence-based science and best practice principles in the provision of direct patient care in the ambulatory setting.
The didactic curriculum component includes the following topics: surgical asepsis, principles of sterile technique, surgical conscience, sterile packaging, sterile attire to include gloves, donning doffing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
The skills assessment portion will include: hand hygiene, sterile gloving, and sterile field set up which will validate the associates are demonstrating sterile/infection prevention techniques at the appropriate level of competency.
A variety of teaching strategies in conjunction with simulation and learning technologies are employed to promote associate engagement and content retention.

- Describe how to reduce or minimize infection risk to patients

- Recognize and perform basic infection prevention practices to prevent HAIs (healthcare associated infections)
- Verbalize how germs are spread in healthcare settings
- Verbalize principles for maintaining asepsis in the clinical environment
