About this Course: This two-day intense review course is intended for nurses who are planning to take the ANCC Gerontological Nursing Certification exam. The lectures and time allotment are based on the exam content outline and will cover all body systems, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, assessment strategies and treatment options that are unique for nursing care of older adults. All participants will be expected to take the Gerontological certification exam within 90 days of completion of the course.

Objectives
- Discuss the demographics of the aging population and the impacts on the health care system.
- Outline the physiological changes of the degenerative process and the effects on each body system.
- Differentiate the nursing care needs of the younger and older adult as they relate to pathologies, care planning, pharmacology, patient education and discharge planning.
- Differentiate the nursing care needs of the younger and older adult as they relate to pharmacology.
- Integrate the legal regulatory and ethical care issues as they relate to nursing care of older adults.
- Identify the gerontological nursing roles and goals in the community, long term care, primary care, acute care and palliative care environments.
- Discuss the evidence-based practice guidelines for holistic care of older adults and the recourses available to patients’ families and care providers.
- Discuss the professional practice issues for holistic care for older adults.
