This course is designed to prepare associates who may participate in care of patients requiring 1:1 or close observation during their hospital stay. The learner will review assessments and interventions to provide for patient safety and describe the process for deploying Constant Care Patient Attendants to minimize safety risks to associates and patients. Course content includes instructions for escalation, special circumstances to consider (suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, elopement), tools for bedside use, and associate documentation expectations.

- Define patient elopement, identify elopement precautions, and describe procedures to implement upon patient’s return to unit
- Describe rationale for implementation of 1:1 Observation and the Nurse Driven CCPA Protocol

- Describe the components of handoff between staff performing 1:1 and Close Observation at change of shift and during breaks
- Identify components of an Environmental Assessment
- List the roles and responsibilities of the RN and the CCPA during 1:1 and Close Observation
