This inter-professional enduring material includes online education on the care, and diagnostic testing for patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. The purpose of this education is to equip healthcare providers with the knowledge needed for the evaluation, management and documentation of stroke care on a neuroscience unit. Objectives
- Discuss the components of a dedicated neuroscience unit.
- Discuss the role of the interdisciplinary team in relation to stroke patient care.
- Discuss the stroke center concept, including the stroke continuum of care and how stroke centers and neuroscience hospital units fit and function.
- Document required discharge planning with social workers or case managers, including required nursing discharge documentation.
- List diagnostic tests, consults, and monitoring appropriate for a patient with a stroke.
- List the required assessments for all stroke patients.
