Objectives
- Accurate count
- Cease all activity/movement, talking, music, etc., during the Time Out
- Concerns about the current patient
- Equipment issues regarding updates to the preference card should be addressed at this time
- Everyone is responsible for speaking up and expressing concern if the Time Out is not done correctly
- Know and demonstrate the importance/ rationale of the Time Out process
- Perform the correct Time Out Protocol for Pre-procedure and Post-procedure (Debrief, aka R.E.C.A.P.S).
- Perform the Time Out before injecting any medication AND after draping the patient but prior to the start of a procedure or incision
- Procedure & Wound Class confirmation
- Return to room with expectation for turnover time and concerns for the next patient
- Specimen sheet signed by surgeon
