Objectives
- Explain why patients with Type 1 Diabetes or insulin deficiency require basal insulin even when NPO for a procedure.
- Integrate a team-based approach in the care of persons with diabetes in the hospital.
- State two (2) goals of periprocedural glycemic management.
- State whether oral agents are given/taken the morning of surgery.
- Utilize appropriate insulin therapy to achieve a blood glucose target of 140 with the range of 110-180mg/dl considered acceptable for hospitalized patients.
