Objectives

  • Apply the standardized subcutaneous insulin protocol including the use of prandial, correction and basal insulin.
  • Identify how to dose prandial and correctional insulin.
  • Integrate a team-based approach in the care of persons with diabetes in the hospital.
  • Recognize insulin dosing in special circumstances.
  • Utilize appropriate insulin therapy to achieve a blood glucose target of 140 with the range of 110-180mg/dl considered acceptable for hospitalized patients.
