Objectives

  • Describe the components of a physiologic basal-bolus insulin regimen.
  • Differentiate between Type 1, Type 2, and other forms of diabetes.
  • Identify the underlying causes of hyperglycemia in the hospital.
  • Integrate a team-based approach in the care of persons with diabetes in the hospital.
  • Utilize appropriate insulin therapy to achieve a blood glucose target of 140 with the range of 110-180mg/dl considered acceptable for hospitalized patients.
