The Ambulatory Medication Safety & Medication Calculation assessment will validate the Medical Assistant (MA) and Radiology Technologist (RT) competency in medication safety and medication calculation to promote the safe medication administration to MedStar Health ambulatory patients. The assessment questions are based on general medication education, basic medication calculations, and patient safety. All newly hired associates will be given Medication Safety and Medication Calculation Resource Guide which includes the information needed for successful completion of the assessment course.
Objectives
- Articulate the angles in degrees for an intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injection
- Clarify the importance of obtaining real time weights in kilograms on all pediatric patients
- Describe how to locate Micromedex on StarPort
- Discuss MedStar Health's “Just Culture” model
- Explain the MAS/MMG medication co-verification process
- Identify 3 best practice guidelines of safe medication administration
- Perform weight-based medication calculations using the proportion method
- Perform weight-based medication calculations using the universal formula
- State the Seven Rights of Medication Administration
- Verbalize the landmarks for an infant vastus lateralis injection
