Activity Description:
The Glycemic Management in the Hospital course is designed to help clinicians effectively manage the hospitalized patient with diabetes with the goal of decreasing morbidity, mortality, length of stay and improving patient outcomes. Pre, peri and post operative management will also be addressed, as well as how to prepare the person with diabetes for safe discharge from the hospital.(Pharmacology/Nutrition 1.0 CE)

Objectives
- Describe how to document critical value notification and hypoglycemia treatment in the patient’s medical record.
- Discuss the impact of hypoglycemia on patients.
- Integrate a team-based approach in the care of persons with diabetes in the hospital.
- List strategies to prevent hypoglycemia.
- Recognize patients experiencing hypoglycemia, initiate treatment using hypoglycemia protocol and safely manage patients to prevent complications.
