The purpose of this course is to provide an understanding of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and its impact on those who may suffer from the disorder. This understanding will assist allied healthcare professionals, along with the medical community, in identifying the potential diagnosis and providing treatment of symptoms across a continuum.

- Describe 3 potential effects of CTE: Memory loss, confusion, impaired judgement, impulse control issues, aggression, depression, suicidality, parkinsonism and progressive dementia.
- Describe the 4 stages of CTE progression. Stage 1: No symptoms; Stage 2: Rage, Impulsivity and Depression; Stage 3: Confusion and Memory Loss; and, Stage 4: Advanced Dementia.
- Describe the mechanism by which CTE occurs. CTE results from sub-concussive blows to the head over time which causes the release of tau protein and results in progressive, irreversible brain damage.
