In collaboration with The George Washington School of Nursing, The Student Nurse Preceptor Course is designed to give nurses new to the precepting role the tools and knowledge to effectively instruct, communicate, and engage with student nurses. This course is intended for nurses who will be precepting senior practicum students or student nurse externs. This is not the clinical coach class for coaching new-to-practice nurses.

- Describe the student's scope of practice using the Dos and Don'ts as a guideline
- Determine effective teaching strategies to use based on the learning opportunity.
- Discuss the different types of feedback.
- Discuss the Nursing Guidelines for student preceptors.
- Examine strategies to foster time management and patient care while precepting a student.
- Identify common safety issues encountered by nursing student preceptors.
- Identify key strategies to establish a safe, effective learning environment for the student.
- Identify the resources available at MWHC for teaching and learning.
- Interact with panel of former/current nursing student preceptors and clinical group instructors.
- State the chain of command and how to handle reportable conditions and unexpected outcomes.
- Utilize communication techniques that improve the learning experience.
- Verbalize key teaching and evaluation moments unique to the three stages of medicatio
