In our journey to become a High Reliability Organization, one of our primary focuses is the reporting of safety events and near misses. Reporting of events allows for open and honest reflection, feedback and mindful awareness of areas in need of improvement. Medstar uses the Patient Safety Event Management System (PSEMS) to house all safety events. The modules included in this course provide an overview and demonstrate work flow actions in the PSMES for File Managers. File Managers are designated to review events, identify contributing factors, note outcome actions taken, involve any additional parties or departments that may contribute to the event and finally close files.
