Moderate Sedation requires advanced critical thinking and knowledge regarding medications and airway maintenance. Please do not register for a class that is scheduled within the first week of your 8 weeks of orientation.  Wait until at least 8 weeks before you participate in a Moderate Sedation simulation.  The registered nurse will apply knowledge of physiologic changes in patients receiving moderate sedation, to render appropriate care. The simulation session is intended as an overview of administering medications per the Moderate Sedation Standard Practice guidelines, assessing & monitoring the patient receiving moderate sedation, and practicing airway management. The target audience is registered nurses responsible for performing moderate sedation in their clinical practice setting. Completion of the moderate sedation module on SiTel is required before attending the simulation session in the lab.
