When a medication dosage contains more than the amount ordered, a nurse or anesthesiologist is required to waste the remaining medication in the cactus sink, with a documented witness present. A Code BERT is called when a patient is experiencing a behavioral health crisis and the unit staff need assistance in managing the situation.
